GGGRH ages range from early 20s to late 40s, and the occupations are just as diverse. There are several teachers, designers, students, a photographer, journalist, architect; there is no one derby type. The one thing that we all share is the love of derby, and our wide spectrum of backgrounds help with the administrative, promotional, and production needs our organization.

The GGGRG league makes revenue from ticket sales, merch sales, sponsorship contributions, and donations from supporters, and it all goes right back into the league. Rent at practice space add up quickly, then add game venue rentals, security, insurance, legal fees and other operational costs ... we need your support to continue rocking derby in Belgium!

You don’t have to have any experience skating what so-ever, no do you need to be in great shape. By playing derby regulary and committing yourself to this sport, you will quickly pick up all the sakills, and the endurance needed to play the sport.

You will get hurt because it is tough, but that is why we train very hard and learn how to fall and whip correctly. We do a lot of off-skates cross-training to prevent injuries. Injuries that are most common include ligament damage to knees, separated shoulders, and lots and lots of bruises! We also have insurance and ice packs at the ready!
And just like any other contact sport, there are strict rules and penalties afor such infractions. Punching, tripping and blocking from behind are illegal, as are elbowing, clotheslining, and cutting the track. Want more info on the rules and penalties? The full rule set regulated by the WFTDA can be found at the WFTDA's rules site.

We have two-hour practices three times a week. We expect you to be able to come regularly to practice at least twice a week. We also have 10 committee to run the various elements of a DIY sports team and expect contributions of time when we host events or need volunteers for different tasks.

In the beginning, not much more than a will to try and a bike helmet! You can rent skates for free during the week. Weekends do not provide skate rentals so until you purchase your own gear and pass a certain skill test (weekend is all derby!), mid week skate is where you’ll be. You need the following equipment:
- Helmet
- Mouthguard
- Kneedpads (heavy duty!)
- Elbowpads
- Wrist guards
- Skates
Sin City Skate is our sponsor and gives team members a discount. They have a starter pack that most people on our team have purchased as the quality is good and the price is solid.

Since the game began in the US, all the terms used in roller derby, especially for refereeing and rules, are in English. This is for consistency. Plus, when different countries bout - say Germany vs Denmark, having a single unifying language makes playing much easier. If a foul is called out - all the players need to immediately recognize what that is, which means practicing and saying the works used in a game in English.
Add to that, the founder of the team Grace Smelly and the training manager Julie Jawbreaker are both Americans and there are a few other nationalities so English is again a unifying language that makes it easier for all.
